The Knock Experience

Knock House makes an unparalleled backdrop for a sporting or family holiday.

Included in the week’s rental, the estate’s thrilling sporting opportunities, both on land and sea, combine with spectacular scenery, diverse landscapes, and abundant wildlife to promise an unforgettable and unrivalled Scottish adventure for the whole family. This is the ultimate adventure playground for adults and children alike.

The Benmore Lady

The Benmore Lady is the secret to unlocking the Inner Hebrides. This 46ft Targa motor launch is exclusively available throughout the season, with our experienced skipper Donald on hand to help you plan your days of exploration. Visit puffin colonies on Lunga, discover the majestic Fingal’s Cave on Staffa and end the day with a barbecue on the white sands of Iona. Few visitors ever get to experience these islands this way. The surrounding waters teem with marine life too: minke whales, dolphins, basking sharks and seals are a regular sight, with the occasional humpback or orca for the truly lucky.

Trout and Salmon Fishing

Few ways to start a day at Knock House can match heading down to the house pool before breakfast, casting a fly as the light comes up over the hills. The estate’s salmon and trout fishing is yours for the week, across the River Ba, River Forsa and Loch Ba, as well as hidden hill lochs teeming with wild brown trout.

Each morning our ghillies will brief you on where the fish have been running and tailor the day to the keen fishermen in your group, whether you are a seasoned angler or picking up a rod for the first time. Salmon begin returning from mid-May, with first runs expected towards the end of June. In a good year, close to 100 salmon are caught across the estate. You can read about our efforts to help wild salmon population numbers here.

Sea Fishing

For the keen angler, the sea holds the promise of something truly spectacular. The waters off Mull are home to huge skate and tope, and this year the estate has its sights set on catching its first bluefin tuna. Our Cheetah Marine sea fishing boat is the perfect vessel for a day in pursuit of the big one.

Closer to shore, cast for mackerel and pollack or pull up the pots for brown crab and lobster, and take the catch straight back to the kitchen for the freshest seafood Mull has to offer. There is no better way to enjoy fresh seafood!

Stalking

Stalking on Benmore is the real thing: physically demanding, properly wild and deeply rewarding. Across 30,000 acres of spectacular Highland terrain, our stalkers will take you onto the hill in pursuit of a well-managed population of red deer, with target practice before you set off and rifles and ammunition provided throughout. Stags are available from late July to October, hinds from November to February.

Other Activities

Benmore Estate sits in a unique position as its traditional highland landscape sweeps down to the spectacular coastal scenery of the Isle of Mull. Beyond the first-class sporting opportunities, this presents the chance for a multitude of other activities across sea, glen, and loch! Whether you fancy a spot of wild-swimming, hiking a Munro or e-biking across the island, the possibility for adventure is endless.

Other activities available for Knock House guests:

Outdoor cookouts at spectacular locations, Mountain Biking and E-Biking, Hiking, Wild Swimming, Sailing, Paddle Boarding & Clay Pigeon Shooting.

Beyond the estate there is also the whole island to explore

The Team

For Knock House guests, getting to know the Benmore team is as much a part of the week as the sport itself. From the moment you arrive, our housekeepers, ghillies and stalkers are on hand to look after you and make the most of every day. Whether your group are keen sportsmen, wildlife enthusiasts, photographers or simply looking to cook their catch over an open fire, the week is shaped entirely around you.
