Wildlife & Tours

Discover a wildlife watching paradise.

Mull is one of Scotland’s premier wildlife destinations, and the estate sits at its heart. Red and fallow deer, wild goats, otters, sea eagles, peregrine falcons and mountain hares are all regular sightings, while the coastline offers encounters with puffins, seals, dolphins, basking sharks and even whales. Our recommended local guides are on hand to help you make the most of it, or simply meander the island by car, bike or foot and let Mull reveal itself at its own pace.

Birds

Nicknamed ‘Eagle Island’, Mull boasts one of the world’s highest densities of golden eagles, while the white-tailed sea eagle, the UK’s largest bird of prey with a 2.5m wingspan, is equally at home here. Seeing both in a single day is a real possibility. From late April the puffin colonies of Staffa and Lunga come alive, and out on the sea gannets, razorbills and other seabirds complete the picture.

Mammals

Red deer, the monarchs of Mull, are often spotted from the roadside or on the hill, and in autumn the glens echo with the roar of stags in rut. Fallow deer, smaller and more secretive, graze the gentler valleys and fields along the Corran. Otters are a regular sight along the shoreline, and with patience and quiet, encounters can be remarkably close.

Sea Life

Join a local boat trip and hopefully you will spot some of our incredible sea creatures. Mull’s waters are alive with minke whales, dolphins, porpoises, and in summer, basking sharks – the world’s second-largest fish. If you are lucky, you might also spot humpback whales, fin whales, and orcas patrolling the coast.
