Mull has spectacular beaches. From secluded coves and remote and isolated beaches, to sprawling white sands, below is a list of our favourites.
Calgary Bay,
North of the Island
Perhaps Mull’s most famous beach, Calgary Bay offers a large sweeping arc of white sand backed by dunes and machair. Sheltered and easily accessible, it’s ideal for picnics, paddling, and gentle walks. The water stays very shallow for a long way out, and the bay is very sheltered, with minimal waves, making it the perfect place for kids to play in the sea. A car park, café and facilities are nearby, the views across the turquoise sea are breathtaking.
Knockvologan, South of the Island
Found at Mull’s south-west tip, near Fidden and Bunessan, Knockvologan is a stunning stretch of beach with bright white sand and turquoise waters. Once you park at Knockvologan Farm, it is a 10-15 minute walk down a rough farm track – so not wheelchair, or buggy, friendly. At low tide, you can walk to tidal islands like Erraid. Remote and wild, it feels almost Caribbean on a sunny day.
Langamull Beach, North of the Island
A hidden gem, Langamull requires a 20–30 minute walk to reach, but the reward is a secluded white-sand beach with crystal-clear waters. Great for swimming and solitude. Located on the north-west coast, near Calgary, it’s a favourite for those seeking peaceful beauty off the beaten track. Once you’ve parked up in the Forestry car-park between Dervaig and Calgary, it is an easy walk to follow. The views out to Rum are spectacular on a clear day.
Laggan Sands
Laggan Sands is a large sandy bay at the head of Loch Buie on the south coast of the Isle of Mull. A popular beach for spotting wildlife, seals can often be seen offshore. The cliffs around the beach are good for spotting the island’s birds of prey. The 8 mile road down to Loch Buie is well worth the drive.
